Animal rights organization PETA is selling a digital download of its rewritten Book of Genesis, generated with the artificial intelligence (AI) program ChatGPT, which transforms God into a supporter of veganism. This is no small task, as the Bible records God Himself both making use of animals and commanding that they be sacrificed and eaten.

The Bible records that God Himself prepared clothing from animal skin.

And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife shirts of skin, and He dressed them. [Genesis 3:21].

PETA’s AI deletes animal “skin” from the account, replacing it with “plant fibers, like hemp and bamboo”.

God’s choice of wording is also overruled by PETA, such that, “animals are referred to as ‘beings’ rather than ‘beasts’ or ‘creatures’” thus adulterating a direct quote of God:

And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kind, cattle and creeping things and the beasts of the earth according to their kind,” and it was so.  [Genesis 1:24].

A large part of the Book of Leviticus is devoted to the intricacies involved in bringing animal sacrifices. The Bible also records the extraordinary number of oxen and sheep sacrificed at the dedication of King Solomon’s temple in Jerusalem.

And Solomon slaughtered the peace-offerings that he slaughtered to the Lord, twenty-two thousand oxen, and one hundred and twenty thousand sheep. [With these sacrifices] the King and all the children of Israel inaugurated the Temple of the Lord. [Kings I:8:63; emphasis added].

The Jewish masses are also commanded to bring sacrifices, as on Passover eve.

The Lord spoke to Moses and to Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying . . . “Speak to the entire community of Israel, saying, ‘In the tenth of this month, let each one take a lamb for each parental home, a lamb for each household. . . . you may take it either from the sheep or from the goats. And you shall keep it for inspection until the fourteenth day of this month, and the entire congregation of the community of Israel shall slaughter it in the afternoon. . . . And on this night, they shall eat the flesh, roasted over the fire . . .'” [Exodus 12:1-8].

About a millennium after King Solomon lived, during the reign of the Roman Emperor Nero, historian Josephus recorded how well observed the Biblical injunction for groups of Jews to bring sacrifices on the eve of Passover, and to then eat the sacrificed animals, continued to be.

So these high priests, upon the coming of that feast which is called the Passoverwhen they slay their sacrifices, from the ninth hour till the eleventh, but so that a group not less than ten belong to every sacrifice (for it is not lawful for them to feast singly by themselves), and many of us are twenty in a group, found the number of sacrifices was two hundred and fifty-six thousand five hundred . . . [Wars of the Jews 6.425, Emphases added].

PETA also rewrote Biblical stories, terming the changes, “new interpretations,” though the changes are to the facts listed in the Bible, not to “interpretations” of the meaning of those facts.

Among other new interpretations, in Genesis Chapter 22, Abraham travels to the land of Moriah and befriends a gentle lamb to show his reverence and respect for God’s creation, rather than slaughtering a ram  . . .

One story in PETA’s new book does not merely change a Biblical story but rather presents a completely fictitious account, without any basis in the Bible, of Abraham and Sarah adopting a dog named Herbie.

As they walked with Herbie, Sarah and Abraham thought of the importance of adopting dogs from shelters and rescue organizations rather than purchasing them from breeders . . .

Ironically, while adding a discussion about animal shelters to the Bible, PETA is actually under fire specifically for the way its animal shelter is run, as described in “PETA’s 25 Years of Killing Pets.”

While animal shelters work tirelessly to rescue pets and unite them with loving families, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) kills thousands of cats and dogs.

According to the latest government filings, PETA euthanized 2,092 dogs and cats in 2022–its highest killing year since 2014. What’s more, PETA has killed nearly 50,000 animals over the last twenty-five years in its Virginia “shelter.”

Based on our calculations, the number of pets PETA has killed would fill 225 dump trucks.

Meanwhile, PETA’s adoption stats are shockingly low. PETA only adopted 58 animals last year, amounting to a 2.1% adoption rate. By contrast, its kill rate is 74%.

The report goes on to compare PETA’s shocking kill rate with that of another animal shelter located just 5 miles from PETA, which takes in more animals than PETA and yet euthanizes animals at a much lower rate of 10%, and to explain why PETA does not invest more into placing their animals up for adoption before killing them.

One Virginia inspector deemed PETA a “euthanasia clinic” and observed that PETA violates its own standards for a humane animal shelter.

As shocking as these numbers are, they should not surprise any serious follower of the animal rights group.

PETA has long condemned pet ownership. PETA [Founder and] President Ingrid Newkirk called owning pets “an abysmal situation.” She also argued that stray cats would be better off dead than facing unforeseen harms such as being hit by a car.

The founder’s disdain for pets living with people may explain why PETA has been accused of stealing pets from their owners and bringing them to their shelters where they face likely euthanasia.

The Washington Times reported on a lawsuit against PETA in which the group is described as a militant organization committing crimes to boost its fundraising.

A recent filing from PetSmart states that “defendant PETA is a militant, activist organization headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia, using its cloak as a nonprofit organization to commit criminal wrongdoing to further its fundraising activities and fund its litigation war chest to advance its two goals: ending private ownership of animals and bestowing human rights upon animals.”

PETA, of course, admits that its Bible is fictional but appears to take the position that the actual Bible is as well, claiming that God Himself would not be happy with the Holy Book.

The Bible has long been used to justify all forms of oppression, so we’ve used ChatGPT to make it clear that a loving God would never endorse exploitation of or cruelty to animals . . .

Unlike PETA’s book, though, the Bible was recorded by a man who was acknowledged as a prophet by an entire nation who related their account of hearing the Ten Commandments.

And all the people saw the sounds and the torches, the sound of the shofar, and the smoking mountain, and the people saw and trembled; so they stood from afar. They said to Moses, “You speak with us, and we will hear, but let God not speak with us lest we die.” But Moses said to the people, “Fear not, for God has come in order to exalt you, and in order that His awe shall be upon your faces, so that you shall not sin.” . . . The Lord said to Moses, “So shall you say to the children of Israel, You have seen that from the heavens I have spoken with you. [Exodus 20:15-19].

As noted by twelfth century physician, poet and philosopher Judah Halevi, summarized by Y. Segal below, it’s not possible to fake a large public event and the subsequent transmission of the event from parents to children.

How could Moses or anyone else have made up the Torah, which describes the Sinai Revelation and other miracles, if the fathers had not in fact witnessed it firsthand? For then thousands of fathers would have cried out at once: ‘Not true! We have never seen anything like that!’ – or else thousands of sons would have shouted: ‘Not true! Our fathers have never told us about this.’ All of these proofs are cited in [Judah Halevi’s] Kuzari . . .

One Twitter user mocked PETA’s use of AI, sarcastically commenting that vegan diets left PETA operatives no choice but to let AI do the work, while also taking a shot at PETA’s pet euthanasia policy.

Well of course they used [AI]. The lack of animal nutrition has caused mental health issues and stunted brain development of the pet murderers.
